Quel passeport permet à un ressortissant FRANCAIS de se rendre aux États-Unis sans visa ou d'y transiter ?
Depuis le 26 octobre 2005, les conditions d'entrée ou de transit sur le territoire des Etats-Unis ont changé.
En application de la loi américaine relative au renforcement de la sécurité aux frontières et à l'entrée sur le territoire, les ressortissants français bénéficient de l'exemption de visa sous réserve de détenir :
- soit un passeport lisible en machine modèle DELPHINE délivré avant le 26 octobre 2005 et individuel (même pour un enfant, car l'inscription des enfants sur le passeport de l'un des parents n'est pas acceptée par les USA).
Le modèle DELPHINE a une couverture brune avec 36 pages numérotées et comporte deux lignes de caractères en bas de la page 2 (caractères noirs sur fond blanc comme pour les cartes d'identité).
- soit un passeport électronique,
- soit un passeport biométrique.
Dans tous les autres cas (passeport à couverture brune ne comportant pas 36 pages numérotées ; passeport à couverture brune mais postérieur au 26 octobre 2005) : vous avez besoin d'un visa.
Pour obtenir ce visa, vous devez contacter l'ambassade des Etats-Unis.
Cette obligation de visa s'impose qu'il s'agisse d'un voyage touristique, d'un déplacement professionnel ou d'un simple transit sur un aéroport américain.
IMPORTANT : l'inscription d'enfants dans le passeport n'étant pas reconnue par les autorités américaines, chacun, y compris un enfant en bas âge, doit être titulaire d'un passeport individuel.
